Kaya Parents & Carers
It’s hard to believe that we’re coming to the end of another eventful term at Kingsley PS! We have so much to celebrate including some pleasing NAPLAN results, Book Week, Science Week, Athletics Carnivals, and our Edu Dance Concert where our students performed like Rock Stars. I am always so impressed by the confidence that our students demonstrate when they are on stage…it takes great courage to perform in front of an audience of hundreds!
Whilst we have a lot to celebrate, the end of the term sees two of our long-standing staff members leaving us to journey down the path of retirement. It is with a heavy heart and immense gratitude that I share the news of Mrs May Leitch’s retirement. After almost four decades of inspiring and nurturing countless students across Western Australia, Mrs Leitch has decided to embark on a well-deserved retirement journey. Her dedication and passion for teaching have left an incredible mark on every school she has been a part of, especially here at Kingsley Primary School, where she has devoted the last 26 years. Whilst we will deeply miss her presence, we are overjoyed for her as she steps into this new chapter of life, surrounded by her loving and ever-growing family. Mrs Leitch will officially retire at the end of term three. We are fortunate to have Mr Jacob Dagostino and Mrs Phyllis Greaves stepping in to continue the excellent work in Room 2. Mr Dagostino will be with the class from Monday to Wednesday, and Mrs Greaves will take over on Thursdays and Fridays.

Mr. Tim has also made the decision to retire from his position at the end of term three. Mr Tim has been a cherished Gardener/Handyman at KPS for the past eight years. But to us, he has been so much more. He has been the Chair of our School Council, a dedicated handyman, a loving carer of animals, a magpie whisperer, a footy umpire, an advisor, and a friend to both staff and students. Mr. Tim’s contributions have been invaluable. He has meticulously maintained our school grounds, ensuring that our gardens are always blooming and our facilities are in top shape. His love for animals is evident in the way he cares for our native wildlife (including Nibbles our resident quenda), and his unique ability to communicate with magpies has always amazed us. As a footy umpire, he has brought fairness and fun to our games, and his wise advice as our School Chairperson has assisted me to navigate the governance of our school. We are currently running a recruitment process to fill Mr Tim’s position and will advise of the successful applicant once the process is finalised.

This month, the Education Minister announced some changes to the current Reporting to Parents process in schools, which will result in the end of semester reports looking different to what they have previously. At Kingsley PS, we value the voice of our staff and our community, so we will be sending out a survey to gauge people’s opinions about the format of our reporting process moving forwards.
Finally, I would like to wish all families a safe and happy holiday and I look forward to seeing all students back on Monday 7 October.
Take care.

Interschool Athletics
Last Friday, September 6, our wonderful Kingsley students represented our school at the Interschool Athletics Carnival.
All students displayed exemplary behaviour and sportsmanship.
We were fortunate enough to win the Handicap shield for our little school of 250 students.
Special mention to Grace Mrisho who won Junior Champion Girl, Kristian Egan who won Runner-up Senior Champion Boy and Elizabeth Paye who won Runner-up Senior Champion Girl.
We are so very proud of each and every one of you!

Science Fun on Tuesday!
On Tuesday, our students had a blast with exciting Science activities for National Science Week! This year’s theme was “Species Survival: More Than Just Sustainability”. Mrs Jardine and the Eco-Warriors organized lots of interesting activities, some being:
- We used special sound amplifiers to listen to nature’s orchestra.
- We looked through binoculars to see what lives high up in the trees.
- We learned to spot and draw native animal tracks in sand and shaving cream.
- We discovered more about our native animals – where they live, how they behave, and what threatens them.
- We got creative and made fungi replicas out of playdough and even created seed bombs!
Taking care of our planet and the amazing animals on it is important and involves many different skills and knowledge. Everyone can help in their own special way!

EduDance Concert
On Wednesday 11 September we celebrated our whole School Edu-Dance Concert.
Big congratulations to all the students that participated. It was great to see all the fantastic moves in each and every performance. Special thanks to Miss Winter for teaching these amazing numbers to our students. Thanks to all the supporters cheering the students on.
