Content Structure

Our Science program at Kingsley Primary School harmoniously aligns with the Western Australian Science curriculum, encompassing three interrelated strands: Science Understanding, Science as a Human Endeavour, and Science Inquiry Skills.

These intertwined strands empower students with understanding, knowledge, and skills that enable them to develop a comprehensive scientific worldview. Our students are encouraged to delve into science concepts, nature, and applications through clearly defined inquiry processes.

The Science Understanding strand illuminates contemporary issues such as climate change, resource utilization, medical advancements, biodiversity, and the origins of the universe. These pivotal science realms are further underscored through the Science as a Human Endeavour strand, while aspects of the Science Inquiry Skills strand invite students to scrutinize contemporary science with a critical eye, involving analysis, evaluation, and effective communication.

Moreover, at Kingsley Primary School, our commitment extends beyond providing a robust foundation in scientific knowledge and skills. We deeply appreciate and embrace the value of cultural diversity and inclusivity within our curriculum. As an integral part of this commitment, we proudly incorporate the Western Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cross-curriculum priority into our science education.

This initiative offers students a holistic understanding of science by interweaving the rich perspectives, knowledge, and contributions of Indigenous cultures. By immersing our students in science elaborations that illuminate the profound connections between Indigenous wisdom and the natural world, we foster a deep appreciation for cultural heritage while nurturing a comprehensive scientific mindset.

This approach enriches students’ scientific learning, while also nurturing them to become culturally aware individuals, well-prepared to make positive contributions to our global community.

Environmental Education

At Kingsley Primary School, our unwavering commitment is to instil a sense of responsibility and environmental awareness in our students. Our curriculum seamlessly integrates essential lessons on sustainability, conservation, and urgent environmental issues. Through dynamic interactive projects, immersive outdoor explorations, and engaging hands-on activities, our aim is to nurture a new generation of young minds. These minds not only comprehend the significance of safeguarding our planet but also possess the knowledge and skills to evolve into conscientious stewards of the environment. By seamlessly infusing these critical concepts into our teaching, we empower our students to actively shape a more sustainable future and make well-informed choices that positively influence the world around them.

Eco Warrior: A person who actively strives to prevent harm to the environment.

Kingsley Primary School is dedicated to nurturing environmentally conscious students and empowering them to play an active role in sustainability initiatives. Our innovative Eco Warriors program promotes hands-on engagement and leadership among students.
In Years 4 to 6, students are provided with the unique opportunity to take the lead on environmental issues within our school and the local community by becoming an Eco Warrior at Kingsley Primary School. As Eco Warriors, students not only express their own perspectives but also represent the viewpoints of their peers, sharing insights gained from eco meetings. This role provides students with a platform to develop valuable skills like confidence, effective communication, and negotiation.
