“Music can change the world because it can change people” Bono.
At Kingsley Primary School our Music program is filled with lots of opportunities for students to sing, dance, play instruments and be part of the wider Music community through Senior Choir and Instrumental Music Program learning a string instrument.
The Music Room is equipped with a range of percussion instruments such as drums, tambourines and maracas. Xylophones and glockenspiels are also used to learn about rhythm, beat and notation so that we can create our own music. Boomwhackers are also great fun with lots of amazing sounds.
Senior Choir is for the Year 4-6 students. We learn a range of songs that allows us to perform at the ANZAC day service, Christmas Concert or School Assemblies. We are part of the Massed Choir Festival that is held in Term 3 each year. This is such an amazing festival to be part of with the choir learning up to 10 songs, some that are Western Australia based. We get to go to the Perth Concert Hall and sing on stage with students from other schools. It is filled with lots of feel-good moments and opportunities also to audition for solo or compare parts.
Instrumental Music School Services offers our students the opportunity from Year 3 to Year 5 to learn a string instrument. In year 3 Violin or Viola is offered, in year 4, Cello and in year 5, Double Bass. The IMSS teachers come in once a week to teach our students and we also have a string ensemble for all the students to take part in. Our String students also get the opportunity to be part of the Kelmscott High School Junior Orchestra, which plays at a few different concerts throughout the year. In Term 4 we have a parent concert so the string students can play for their families and show their wonderful talent and what they have learned. Having the IMSS program at Kingsley Primary School allows the students in Year 6 who are still playing their string instrument to apply for High Schools in the area that offer specialised Music Programs.
