Kaya, Wanjoo Parents & Carers
I want to start by saying an enormous thank you to those families who have already donated to our Read & Raise fundraiser. We are nearing the end of week two…which means we have one week to go to reach our target!
As of today, our students have a combined total of 13 541 minutes read and we have raised over $1000. We would love to see the number of minutes read and our funds raised DOUBLED by the end of next week, so please share the donation link far and wide!
With the money raised, we will be purchasing more Home Readers for your children to bring home and share the magic of reading with you.
Please support your children to read EVERY night for at least 15 minutes. Get them away from screens and off their devices & set aside time to read with them… and read to them! Sharing a book can be a bonding experience for children, cuddling up with a parent/carer to read a book can be a special time for both. There’s also evidence to suggest that reading for pleasure is more likely to determine whether a child does well at school than their social or economic background, so please assist us to support your child to flourish as a learner!
It was great seeing so many of you at Room 7’s Assembly and then at our Cross Country event on the oval.

Year 6’s School Fete
The Year 6 School Fete will be held on Wednesday 29th May 8:45am to 1:30pm.
This gives the opportunity for the Year 6’s to raise money to help subsidise their end of year camp and Adventure World. Lots of fun will be had from races and challenges to lucky dips.
A spend of no more than $5 per child is our recommendation.
Room 15 Mother’s Day
On Friday 10 May, Room 15 held a Mothers’ Day event fit for a princess!
We read the story “The Princess and the Pea” and wondered whether our mums were princesses as well. We used salt dough to make our own green peas and then hid them under mums’ pillow or in her bed.
We discovered they ALL had a terrible night’s sleep so we made them a special crown to wear when they came to school.
Thank you to all the mums that could join us, and we hope you had a better night’s sleep that night!
Public Speaking Competition
Last week, three of our students competed in the Interschool Public Speaking Competition. This is the second year the competition has been running, and the topic for this year was “What will I be doing in 2050?”.
Our Year 4-6 students delivered their speeches in their classrooms, with the top three speakers from each class progressing to our whole school competition.
The top three from that event were then invited to participate in the interschool competition held at Willandra PS last Friday. Congratulations to Aisha Onuoha, Kishan Edwinraj, and Rio Morrison who represented our school with pride.
Please see below the speeches they each presented.
What I will be doing in 2050 – Rio Morrison Room 7
What are you going to do in 2050? Well in 2050, I will be a 36-year-old good looking man. I will be living in a mansion or a bomb proof bunker, eating food, watching tv and getting fat. Well… I do not know.
Also, in 2050 I will be looking forward to getting a team to find a way to cure cancer because in the last couple of decades hundreds of thousands of people have been diagnosed with that bad disease and I want to stop that from happening to people from our earth. Scientist have done a lot of progress to finding a cure to cancer.
In 2050 the world could be more advanced, or the world could be destroyed because of robots. Jobs will be taken by AI and robots. There will be more homeless people around because the robots will be living in your house.
The richest people will be a trillionaire and guns will be worse.
Then in 2050 1 out of 5 parents will be divorced and it will be harder to find a happy relationship and people will be more depressed around the world.
Also, more kids will be in foster care and divided family’s because parents will not be able to look after their kids it and will be harder to pay bills because of the robot work force.
Then in 2050 all the rich people will be dead and not rich because of the richest people and the CEO of world bank will be a robot.
Also, just like in the music industry, authors will not be authors because robots will takeover with AI and type up stories on the system and all these teachers will lose their jobs if they are not dead, they might not have a job at all.
AI will write the speeches like this. Wait…did I really write this or did AI? (pause)
Finally in 2050 I will have to work around 10 – 14 jobs throughout my life so I can pay bills and keep food on the table. I keep losing jobs to robots who do the job better than I can.
What I will be doing in 2050 – Aisha Onuoha Room 7
So, picture this, me 35 years old, on my couch, chips in hand, staring at the tv, while robots destroy the world. A couch potato, not the lifestyle I want.
Maybe this instead, I’ll be an independent mother of 2 kids with a loving husband. My job is to help scientists find new ways to live. My husband’s job is an international
updater. He updates all the AI and programs to keep the city running.
We don’t have much oxygen these days because many trees and forests are being cut down, so people are trying to grow more. Soon enough, the world will be entirely made of metal and concrete. No grass, a low supply of trees and natural foods are all gone.
Not many kids born today have ever seen a plant.
When you are 18 years old, you have the chance to get a chip in your brain and transport
your consciousness to a computer and you’ll be able to do things you could never do in
real life and achieve many more goals.
Cancer is finally gone but many more diseases have come, but humanity will hopefully cure them too.
Many more wars are coming as well, like many people think there will be wars of humanity and technology and wars because of DNA tampering, but there will also be wars for land, water, food.
Scientists don’t know exactly what 2050 will be like but I hope the VR world will be.
available to everyone as well as no school and world peace.
What I will be doing in 2050 – Kishan Edwinraj Room 11
What snacks do robots serve? Nuts and bolts!
Good morning, everybody. My name is Kishan, and I am here to tell you what I would be doing in 2050.
First let’s go over some job opportunities. Robots are perfect for war jobs. They don’t feel hungry or thirsty. AI is stereotyped as going rogue but think about it. If theories are correct, if aliens invade, then robots will be a little strange to have a species as smart and intellectual as us.
If robots were to take over people’s jobs, what it we made our own humanoids to do our duty and take the salary. It sounds a little cruel, but we could pay them in something of their own currency to stimulate them with. Although they might get a mind of their own . . .
Hazardous jobs like civil engineering or firefighting would be replaced by robots so no one is at risk of losing their lives or injuring themselves.
Now about nanotechnology. Nanotechnology will revolutionise life. You don’t need phones to call people from far away. You don’t need to waste time waiting for a computer to load to access a file, as you simply open it with your mind. Did I mention its portable?
I don’t have a clear indication on what I would be doing in 2050, but I would like to be a doctor. Future technology will suit this occupation.
My idea is manipulation of technological antibodies or as I call them cybermites. These are basically active pieces of nanotechnology used to enhance or replace anti bodies or white blood cells. This will majorly increase your immune system. You could also inject them into your blood stream to deteriorate tumours.
So, this is all I would be doing in 2050. Also, one thing, AI is powerful, but only dangerous depending on how you use it. Thank you for listening.
Loch Ness Monster competition
Last year, the students from Room 7 were successful in winning the Loch Mess Monster competition at the Armadale Council’s Highland Gathering.
The prize we won was an art and craft incursion from REmida. An artist, who has displayed her work several times in the Sculptures by the Sea exhibition came to present and work with the students to create a “scarecrow” from recycled materials.
In a ninety-minute session, the now year 5 & 6 students who won the competition were divided into 3 groups and given resources to create their characters. After a creatively constructive craft session, these three characters emerged from the chaotic collective.
These will live in the school gardens as pieces of art to cheer the students. It remains to be seen whether they will actually scare the crows.
