Kaya, Wanjoo Parents & Carers,
A Kingsley focus this year is for students to develop the habit of coming to school every day. It is vitally important so that your child does not miss out on important ideas and skills they need for future learning.
It is a legal requirement that parents contact the school regarding any student absences or reasons for lateness. You can make this contact by writing a message, emailing the school kingsleyps.wa.edu.au, ringing the school office (9234 3800) or contacting the classroom teacher directly.
This information assists us to use the correct absence codes and support students with their learning. Daily SMS messages are automatically generated and sent to families when we do not have documented reasons for student absences.

Congratulations to our students who participated in the inaugural girls’ soccer carnival earlier this term. It was fabulous to see their participation, enthusiasm and great skill learning. A special thank you to Mr Nicholas for leading this initiative and KPS participation. Thanks also to other staff members who helped our students to shine. Our 1st team finished in 3rdplace, and our 2nd team won The Girls Champion Cup Fair Play Award. Congratulations and well done to you all.
Our school council meet in week 8 of every term, 1.45-2.45 on a Tuesday. I believe our School Council is our partner in the pursuit of improving outcomes for all students. Our School Council Agenda Yearly Overview clearly articulates meeting objectives and mutual benefits which enables us to find valuable ways to build our capacity as a school. In 2025 I would like to expand the School Council to include more family representatives. Please see me, or email the school, if you would like to join our school council. Please be aware that you will need to supply a screening number. This is provided to you when you complete the Working With Children Check. Our next meeting is on the 17 June
Thank you for your ongoing support of KPS.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
Kingsley Primary School is currenty developing a ‘PBS’ framework, which stands for positive behaviour support. We have been focusing on adapting our current process to include shared values, ways of working and expectations of positive student behaviour that includes students’ strengths, abilities and diversity. The PBS team attended a Professional Learning Day in Week 1 Term 2 to discuss multitiered systems of support for student achievement, engagement and wellbeing. Last week, I had the pleasure of talking with students about expected positive behaviour at school to ensure and promote a student voice. We are also developing a survey that will be sent out to parents and carers in our school community, to gain your input/ feedback. We are excited to see our adapted framework come together and continue to build a strong school community culture.
Miss Katelyn Robinson.

URSTRONG
URSTRONG’s whole-school friendship strategy has improved the social climate in schools around the world, connecting over a million kids, parents, and teachers with a common language of friendship. We are proud to be a URSTRONG School and are committed to empowering your children with friendship skills.
You are invited to access hundreds of resources – including an 8 session video series. This will allow you to learn the same language & strategies being taught in the classroom through the Friendology 101 curriculum. We hope that, as a URSTRONG Family, you will reinforce the important messages of empowerment, self-compassion, & kindness at home.
As a next step, we would recommend:
- Click here to view an overview of URSTRONG (please access Kinsgley Website).
- Activate your FREE Parent Membership and explore all the resources available to your family.
- Explore the hundreds of resources available to you!
We believe that empowering our students with these skills will create a culture of kindness at our school and we hope that, together, we can support your children to have healthy, feel-good friendships.
You may also want to have a sneak-peek at the video below where Dana Kerford (UR Strong Founder) discusses the Language of Friendship. Enjoy!
Language of Friendship: In this video, Dana Kerford (Friendship Expert & Founder of URSTRONG) will introduce you to URSTRONG’s simple framework for guiding children towards healthy friendships. Sit back and relax while Dana walks you through URSTRONG’s unique, kid-friendly language to teach friendship skills and conflict resolution!
Easter Bonnet Parade
The last day of Term one ended on a high of hats during our colourful Easter Bonnet Parade.
All the classes had gone to great effort on their hat making skills and some parents put in extra special effort to celebrate our parade.

Kingsley’s Carnival Success
In Week 2 of this term, our students did Kingsley proud at the Girls Soccer Carnival!
Kingsley A finished 3rd overall, just one place short of qualifying for the state championships, an incredible effort in our first appearance at the event. Kingsley B were also recognised for their positive attitude and teamwork, taking home the Fair Play Award.
There were some exciting moments on the scoreboard too! Hannah scored Kingsley’s first ever goal in the carnival’s history, Skye became our record goal scorer with two, and Indie and Christina also added to the tally.
Well done to all players for your hard work, spirit, and sportsmanship!

Free Vision Screening in Term 3
We are pleased to announce that the Lions Eye Health Program will once again be visiting our school in Term 3 to offer FREE vision screenings for students.
Did you know that over 80% of a child’s learning is processed through their eyes? Undiagnosed vision issues can impact a child’s development and educational progress. It is estimated that 1 in 5 Australian children may have an undetected vision problem. Early screening is a simple yet powerful way to help identify children who may need further eye testing.
Trained members of the Lions Club will conduct four key assessments:
- Visual Acuity – using a Lea 3m-15 line Symbol Chart
- Colour Vision – using the Quick 6 Basic Colour Screening Book
- Depth Perception – using the Stereo Fly Screening Tool
- Spot Vision Screener – State of the art portable machine designed to screen for Myopia (near sightedness),Hyperopia (far sightedness), Astigmatism (blurred vision), Anisometropia (unequal refractive power),Strabismus (eye misalignment) and Anisocoria (unequal pupil size).
The screening process is quick, non-invasive, and requires no physical contact or eye drops. Each child’s results will be sent home in an individual report. If any potential issues are detected, they will be noted and families will be encouraged to seek follow-up care with an eye health professional.
This is the third time we’ve been lucky enough to offer this service at our school. Previously, this program has helped identify students with vision needs that may have otherwise gone unnoticed.
Consent forms will be sent home before the end of this term. Please keep an eye on your child’s schoolbag in the coming weeks and return the signed form if you wish for your child to participate.
We are proud to support this important initiative for our students’ health and wellbeing.
Thank you
