Kaya, Wanjoo Parents & Carers
It’s hard to believe that it’s already week three, and that our eleven week term is already packed with exciting educational opportunities for our Kingsley kids! As it is a longer term, I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you the importance of sleep in our lives. A good night’s sleep keeps us healthy, happy and allows us to perform at our very best. Children between the ages of 5-12 need between 10 and 11 hours sleep each night to be able to pay attention, solve problems, learn and be in a good mood each day. We ask for your support in making sure that your children get the sleep they need, so that they come to school fresh and ready to get the most out of every learning opportunity. The following website has some great information and activities for parents and children to learn more about sleep hygiene-Sleep for Kids – Teaching Kids the Importance of Sleep
Along with a good night’s sleep, we want to see your children attending school EVERY day! Missing one day of school per fortnight adds up to missing four weeks of lost learning in a year. Over a student’s school life, this equates to an entire year of missed schooling. We want the very best for your kids (as we know you do) so please ensure that they are at school by 8.30am and are collected promptly at 2.45pm in the afternoons.
On Monday 13 May, we commence our Read & Raise fundraiser. We are wanting to encourage our students to get ‘hooked on a book’ and READ every day for three weeks, whilst raising some important funds to purchase more home readers for children to take home. Additional information will be sent home next week, and we encourage you to get all family members involved!
I’m looking forward to seeing you all at the many events that we have planned this term! Until then…take care.

Grass Roots Music Foundation
This year we are fortunate to be partnering with Mr Qynn and the Grass Roots Foundation to assist our students to self-regulate their emotions and manage their behaviour through the power of music. Mr Qynn will be working alongside our very talented Mrs O’Neill to facilitate the program. Mr Qynn has already donated electric guitars, electric drum kits and electric organs to our school for students to use.
Birthday Celebrations
As of Term Two, we ask that parents do not send cakes, lollies or icy poles in with their children to celebrate birthdays etc. Many of our students have allergies, special dietary requirements or cultural/religious considerations when it comes to the types of food that their children can/cannot consume. As parents, we have the right to make decisions about the types of food that our children eat, so with School Council endorsement, we have made the decision to discontinue this practice.
ANZAC Day
Last Wednesday 24th April we acknowledged our ANZAC’s in a beautiful ceremony lead by our student Councillors and Mr Devlin. Lest We Forget.
