NEWSLETTER Term 1 Week 3

Kaya, Wanjoo Parents & Carers,

Welcome to our first newsletter for 2025. It has been wonderful to see so many of our returning families and meet those families that are new to the KPS community. We have had a great start to the year. Thanks to the dedication of our staff, the students have settled well into their classrooms, and I would like to acknowledge and thank them all for creating such a warm and welcoming start to the year.

It is such a pleasure to see our wonderful students who make coming to school each day such a delight.

Fabulous Friday

What a great way to end week 3!

Our fabulous school community welcome breakfast was a great success, and it was amazing to see so many of our staff, students and families join us this morning.

Also, a big thank you to our Student Councillors who ran today’s assembly. We are proud of your commitment and care for our school

Parent Information Meetings

All parents and caregivers are invited to attend our upcoming parent information meetings, in week 4. During these meetings teachers will present information about their teaching / learning program, class routines, expectations, and school policies. These meetings are to provide an opportunity to meet the classroom teacher and learn general information about classroom routines and the school. Within the meeting format teachers will be unable to appropriately address issues specific to individual children, so please make an alternative time with the teacher if required.

School Council

I look forward to working with everyone this year and thank our existing members and new members for their commitment as we work together to achieve the best outcomes for our school.

Our first meeting will be held on Tuesday 25 March 1.45 -2.45 pm

School Faction Captains

In week 2, we held our School Faction Captain elections. Congratulations to those worthy recipients and to our School Councillors who were elected at the end of last year. Year 6 students are valuable role models and leaders across the school. Our younger students are continually looking to our senior students for leadership and assistance. Throughout the year there will be leadership opportunities, both formally and informally, for all students to continue to display and develop our school values.

KPS is an ALLERGY AWARE school

We have students who have anaphylaxis to nuts and eggs and allergy to dairy products. Anaphylaxis is a sudden, severe allergic reaction that may require immediate medical treatment and is potentially life-threatening. We are seeking the cooperation and support of our KPS families to minimise the risk of students encountering specific foods that contain nuts and eggs. Therefore, we encourage you to follow these simple steps:

  Please don’t give your children foods containing eggs or nuts to bring to school, including boiled eggs or egg sandwiches. Cold meats, tuna, chicken, tofu, salad sandwiches are great alternatives.

  Be aware of foods that may contain nuts such as peanut paste, Nutella, muesli bars and crackers.

  If your child eats foods containing eggs or nuts for breakfast, please ask them to wash their hands and brush their teeth before coming to school.

  • Please clearly label your child’s lunch box and drink bottle with their name.

  I would ask that you let your child know a little about food allergies and ask them not to share food with other children.

As we educate our school community to help with the management of food allergy and anaphylaxis, the parents of students with the allergies will continue to educate their child on self-management at a developmentally appropriate level. We ask you to support the school’s risk minimisation strategies outlined so that we can increase safety and provide an environment that meets the needs of all our students.

Student Attendance

Kingsley Primary School values school attendance and students being on time each day

As per the Western Australian School Education Act of 1999, “a student must attend school on the days on which school is open for instruction”.

When a student is absent parents/carers are required to inform the school as to the reason for the absence. This also applies to when students are late.

Late Arrivals

As a new principal to the school, I am concerned about the number of students who are presenting as consistently late for school. Last Wednesday we were only 11 days into a new school year, and we have had 168 late arrivals to school. This averages to 15 students being late each day, with some students late on more than 3 occasions.

Classrooms open at 8.30 and learning programs begin at 8.45. Students arriving at school AFTER 8:45am are considered late. As of Monday 24 February, students who are late are required to come to the office with an adult, who can inform the office staff as to the reason for the child’s latenessOur aim is to ensure the care, safety and welfare of all students attending our school

the office staff will mark the students time of arrival via Compass. Students are then to hand the welcome pass to their classroom teacher. This assures the teacher that the morning roll has been adjusted to reflect the late arrival.

LET’S WORK TOGETHER TO ENSURE THAT EVERY MINUTE COUNTS

School Hats

It is compulsory for all students to wear a bucket hat to play outside in the sun. Please ask your child whether they have their hat at school. Replacement school hats can be purchased at the office.  New hats $15.  Second-hand hats $3.
